So today I attended my first specialty class at my CrossFit box.  I was talking with my coach trying to figure out which one to do and based on the fact that I love any Oly lifts in our WOD’s, I showed up to the 10am Oly Lifting class today.  Yay!

We of course go over good form in our normal workout classes, but there is such skill to Olympic Lifting (Snatches, Clean and Jerks) that I just wanted to do it better and by doing it better I would be able to move up  in weight quicker. So today we worked on the Power Snatch. Would this shirt be inappropriate to wear out, LOL?

Luckily it’s one of my favs, so I loved how for an entire hour that’s all we did. We broke it down into sections, did drills, practiced with PVC pipes and then moved on to empty barbells and added weights at the end.

I can already tell after 1 session that my lifts will improve exponentially because I’m locking down the form.  For those that lift, you realize that you don’t need the strength to lift that weight because it is the hip thrust that powers the barbell over your head.  All you have to be able to do is hold the weight up overhead.  I loved hitting a few today where that sweet spot was found and the bar just floated up overhead without any effort. Ah… this is why I love Oly lifts!

So I will definitely be going every Saturday or Sunday now and am considering adding in a Power Lifting class to work on those lifts (Back Squats, Deadlifts, Bench).  Shoot, our box even offers a gymnastics class to work on those dreaded things like ring dips and muscle ups.  First though I want to work on lifts.
